dear friends with babies

When does the "baby crying all the time when it's awake" thing end? With Story, we're getting little ten minute- half hour bursts of inquisitive, cute baby, then hours of crying or hours of sleep. I'm just wondering for my own sanity, as we are in constant crying/sleeping land.

Thanks for any input :)

Depends on the baby.

To the best of my knowledge, colic doesn't usually start until 2 weeks or so and can last up to 3 months. (If anyone else knows different, please correct me and weigh in on this). How often is she eating? Is she content after her feedings?

If you don't already have one, I highly recommend getting a breast pump so that you can pump a bottle for Story and then leave Tim with her so you can get out of the house for a bit. Taking a walk is always good, when you are ready for that (I know you are probably pretty sore still). It will be good for your sanity. Likewise, Tim needs to get away here and there as well.

Also, different babies have different thresholds for stimulation. Some are easily stimulated and can go from zero to sixty in an instant. Others are mellow. Story may just have a fiery, awesome personality!

Enjoy those inquisitive quiet moments with her, and remember those even when she is in meltdown mode. This will pass; even if it seems like it will go on forever, it won't! And one day soon you'll look back and be like "Wow, I handled that REALLY well! It was tough, but we did it!"

Big hugs:)
